Over 30 artists are showing work at Dumfries and Galloway Fine Arts Society’s spring exhibition in Kirkcudbright from this Sunday 29th March until 11th April.
And this time members have also entered photographic works that demonstrate their artistic vision for the show at the Harbour Cottage Gallery.
“We’ve a number of members who primarily use the photographic medium or use photography in their mixed media works,” says Paul O’Keeffe, chair of DAGFAS.
So it’s natural now for us to make sure they feature within our fine arts exhibitions,” he explains.
Alistair Hamilton, a photographic artist and DAGFAS member says:
“I am so pleased to be taking part in a DAGFAS exhibition for the first time as it begins showing artistic work created using traditional or digital photographic techniques”.
“The Society is looking for original works made with the intention of creating an artistic effect. This is in contrast to photography which is photojournalism, reportage, fashion or straightforward portraiture,” Alistair explained
Other artists exhibiting include past president Alexander Robb, who is showing oil paintings, former Chairs Sheena McCurrach, exhibiting mixed media, and John Fairgrieve, showing sculpture. Respected print maker Joshua Miles will also be exhibiting new reduction lino cuts, alongside the ever popular Lisa Hooper.
The exhibition runs daily from 10.30am-4.30pm, until Saturday 11th April, when it closes at 3pm.Entry is free.
