Still Life Painting in Acrylics
Workshop Topic
Participants can select from the objects and backdrops provided to assemble a still life composition. Jenny has a relaxed and encouraging approach to acrylic painting which will help students of any level including beginners to complete a painting in the time available.
What we will do
A variety of objects, from vessels to fruit and flowers and backgrounds such as fabrics will be provided, you are also welcome to bring your own objects. We will begin by each participant selecting a group of items. There will be plenty of source material for everyone to create their own arrangement of objects. We will all apply a thin wash of acrylic paint to our canvas boards which is left to dry while we move on to a paper sketch.
Jenny will demonstrate how she creates a rapid initial sketch in paint on paper, and the ways this can be used to map out the final composition. Everyone will have an hour to complete this first sketch, then we will move onto painting the final artwork on our canvas boards. The rest of the day will be spent painting in acrylics with Jenny offering technical advice and feedback. The focus will be on enjoyment.
At the end of the workshop
The beauty of working with acrylic paints is their fast drying time, and the ability to paint over and layer colours without them becoming muddy. This workshop will show you how to get the most out of this medium and boost your confidence in composition and style. You will have time to complete a still life painting during the day. We aim to finish at 4pm.
