Wild Solway

An open invitation to artists :  Can you help?

The Dumfries and Galloway Fine Art Society and WWT Caerlaverock are coming together to launch a joint fund-raising, publicity and Arts venture promoting the wildlife of the Solway and the work of WWT Caerlaverock through the visual arts, entitled ‘Wild Solway’.

We would like to invite donations of created work, in the form of paintings, drawings, original prints, ceramics and sculpture for the ‘Wild Solway’ Art Exhibition which will be held from 4 – 31 October 2024 at the WWT Caerlaverock, Dumfries and Galloway. All the work on show will have been inspired in some way by the character of the Solway landscape – its wildlife, scenery and skies.

WWT Caerlaverock and Dumfries and Galloway Fine Arts Society are working together to support ‘Wild Solway’.  Both organisations rely on public donations to allow them to thrive, therefore we need your support to ensure the success of the venture. You can join in either as an artist by donating work for the exhibition or by visiting the WWT Caerlaverock to view the exhibition and enjoy some of the superb pieces of work on show. You will also see first-hand some of the valuable work WWT undertakes on their reserve. You will also have the opportunity to purchase some beautiful original artwork there for your own collection.

All proceeds from Wild Solway will be shared jointly between DAGFAS and the WWT Caerlaverock.

So, artists – can you help? Would you be willing to donate a piece of your artwork?

Your work will also be entered into a competition which will be independently judged, with every piece of artwork having the chance of winning a first prize of £1,000 plus three runner-up prizes of £250 each.

In addition, the work will form part of the ‘Wild Solway’ exhibition at WWT Caerlaverock Wetland Centre from 4- 31 October 2024 as well as being offered for sale on-line.

You can find out more about the Wildfowl & Wetland Trust, Caerlaverock at Caerlaverock Wetland Centre | WWT .

On-line Auction :

An on-line auction will be held concurrently with the exhibition. This will also be widely promoted to encourage further sales and publicity.

Guidelines for artwork submissions:

Submissions may be made direct through the website using the online form below to be received by by 31 August 2024 with an accompanying jpeg image of your work.

Please note that we will need your ready-to-hang work by 30 September 2024. Collection points will be set up nearer the time – details to follow.

All work submitted must have been inspired in some way by the character of the Solway landscape – its wildlife, scenery and skies.

Paintings, original prints, sketches, sculpture, ceramics or textile art will be welcomed. Paintings, unless a box canvas, should be framed, labelled, wired and ready to hang.

All entries will be judged by an independent panel. The criteria for assessing the pieces will include visual excellence, technical craftsmanship, and representation of the subject. Every effort will be made to include all donated work in the ‘Wild Solway’ exhibition at WWT Caerlaverock.  All will be offered for sale online – details to follow. The top 4 pieces selected will receive prize money of £1000 for first prize plus 3 x runner up prizes of £250

Finalists will be invited to exhibit a selection of their work on the DAGFAS website for a year and will be featured in our magazine and social media.
