Wild Solway
An open invitation to artists: Can you help?
The Dumfries and Galloway Fine Arts Society (DAGFAS) and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) Caerlaverock are coming together to launch a joint fund-raising, publicity and art exhibition entitled ‘Wild Solway’. Our aim is to raise the profile of the work of the WWT at Caerlaverock, and bring the inspirational landscape of the Solway and its wildlife to a wider audience through the generosity and creativity of the artists taking part.
We therefore invite donations of created work, in the form of paintings, drawings, original prints, ceramics, sculpture or textile art for the ‘Wild Solway’ Art Exhibition to be held from 4th – 31st October 2024 at the WWT Caerlaverock, Dumfries and Galloway. All the work on show will have been inspired in some way by the character of the Solway landscape – its wildlife, scenery and skies.
WWT Caerlaverock and DAGFAS are working together to present ‘Wild Solway’. Both organisations rely on public support to allow them to thrive, therefore we need your help to ensure the success of this venture. You can support us as an artist, by donating work for the exhibition, or as a visitor to the WWT Caerlaverock to view the exhibition and enjoy some of the superb pieces of work on show . You will also see first-hand some of the valuable work the WWT undertakes on their reserve as well as have the opportunity to purchase some beautiful original artwork for your own collection.
All proceeds from Wild Solway will be shared jointly between DAGFAS and the WWT Caerlaverock. You can find out more about the WWT Caerlaverock here.

Your artwork will also be entered into a competition which will be independently judged. *Up to £2000 in prize money will be shared among the best entries with a special category for 15-25 year-olds!
As well as being part of the ‘Wild Solway’ exhibition at WWT Caerlaverock Wetland Centre on show from 4th– 31st October 2024 it will also be offered for sale on-line.
On-line Auction:
An on-line auction of the exhibition will be held by Thomson Roddick Auctioneers. This will be widely promoted to encourage further sales and publicity.

Guidance for Artists
Your work should be framed and ready to hang. Please make sure it is signed and dated, with our official label firmly attached to the back of the picture. The exhibition space at the visitor centre is limited. We are hoping to hang 30 – 40 works with a turn-around during the exhibition to enable the display of as many artworks as possible. For those familiar with the centre, the upstairs mezzanine will also be part of the exhibition area.
With limited space available at Caerlaverock, we are restricted on size. Whilst there is room for one or two larger pieces, we would prefer the work to be no more than 60cm w x 40cm h . You will also need to supply a jpeg image of minimum 300dpi quality which will be used for the online auction and promotion of the exhibition. Please send this image via email to : wildsolway@dagfas.org.uk with a note of your name, contact details, the title of the work, size, medium and reserve price.
Delivery and collection. If you need help with delivering or collection of your work, please email wildsolway@dagfas.org.uk. A few drop-off points throughout the region will be available. Otherwise, please deliver your work which should be labelled as instructed and accompanied by an entry form as directed below. Both labels and forms are also available to download *see below Please deliver your work to the offices of Thomson Roddick, Irongray, Dumfries DG2 0JE on Wednesday 2nd October between 10am and 12.30. Judging will take place promptly and you will be informed if you are a prizewinner.
